Tools

In our groups with children we have found a few tools very useful to help children learn about their feelings and talk about them in a playful way.

We have put some of the games and tools here for you.  Most of these activities you can use with children in almost any context. It doesn't have to be in a grief group.  They will work in a class at school or in a youth group. Even just one on one.

Patience' story

Patience has attended one of our workshops where she learnt about the feelings wheel.

Having a non-talking, slightly moody teenager at home, she thought she'd try improving communication
by pinning a feelings wheel to his bedroom door.

He got the message and changed the arrows indicating how he felt and what he was going to do about it with increasing conviction.

Life in the house was a lot more peaceful also for Patience as she learnt to gauge the moods of her son much better.

After a week her son suggested making a big wheel for everyone in the house so one was always up on how the others are doing.
